Because this isn’t offered anywhere on Bandcamp, I decided to use YouTube to introduce my friends to early-era ragga, drum & bass, and jungle from the genre’s prime era. It sounds almost lo-fi these days, but the power was always there. This is a gem from Soul Jazz Records.

Daryl Hall & Toots and The Maytals – Sweet and Dandy
Food and reggae are a glorious match. Add Daryl Hall hosting the festivities and having Toots & The Maytals singing with him, and you have an absolutely charming bit of viewing for the evening.
The Song That Made Steely Dan Legends — But Destroyed the Band
Well, the title was bungled, but the reality is that the album, “Aja,” is a masterpiece. It was sad to see Steely Dan nearly destroyed by their quest for perfection.
Bongos & Marimbas – Vintage Lounge & Retro Jazz Vol.1 | Cocktail bar music
No reviews today due to a need to relax, so I offer this great channel for easy listening!
Wim Mertens & Glenn Branca – Belly Of An Architect (Original Soundtrack)
For no other reason than having a good memory about the great Wim Mertens and the late Glenn Branca, I present you this minimalist classic soundtrack, one of Mertens’ best works.

Avant-progressive chamber rock has great appeal to me. Mexican quartet Culto Sin Nombre were among the best at it, though they always suffered from poor production quality. It’s a shame, really, as they should have been held in the same esteem as Univers Zero and Art Zoyd.

As today is Good Friday, as celebrated by the Julian Calendar, I will be taking tonight off for late-night prayers. I leave you with a track by Lebanese singer Fairuz (or Fairouz) celebrating the darkest day of the year. Have a blessed Paschal season.
Nkwitchoua – Love Tones
First, an introduction to this YouTube channel. African Grooves has long been a favorite of mine, as the curators have introduced their audience to some fine, funky releases from the African continent. This particular release comes from Cameroon, and the funk/disco vibe from Nkwitchoua is wild.
Mother Mother – Hayloft I (Official Video)
It’s been years since I watched a relatively new music video. As someone old enough to remember when MTV first started (“Video Killed The Radio Star,” indeed…), I used to love the cheesiness of the early videos. Filmmakers, however, caught on to how great a new medium the music video Continue Reading
The Alarm – Happy X-Mas (War Is Over)
For those of us who celebrate Christmas according to the Julian Calendar, may you all have a wonderful Christmas!
