This is my first opportunity to hear the voice of Thandi Ntuli, an amazing jazz singer out of South Africa. She collaborates on this album with one of Los Angeles’ leading lights, the inestimable Carlos Niño. The album will appeal to those who have been immersing themselves in spiritual jazz. A keeper.
Our friends, the ever-amazing JOHN 3:16, come in with a track that clocks in at around 5 minutes and manages be blend cinematic ambiance with heavy tension. Quite a captivating listen.

As I have to stay home due to a nasty cold, I thought I’d explore some older releases. Our dear friends at Wewantsounds released this compilation of spiritual jazz in 2017, and it sounds as fresh as ever. Some of the giants featured on this album include Harold Land, Roy Haynes and Shelly Manne, but each track is solid.
Henri Giraffe works under a score of pseudonyms (this is one of them, obviously), but what is impressive about the release is that it is some of the freakiest lo-fi space rock I’ve heard in a while.

Brooklyn-based composer and cellist Clarice Jensen has an incredible resume, including performing on new releases from both Michael Stipe and Taylor Swift as well as well as being the artistic director of ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble. Today is an auspicious occasion as this post will mark 1,000 consecutive days of posting music for my readers and friends.
