Corrado Maria De Santis – Over a Long Time

One of the great joys of my vocation is discovering musicians I would probably never otherwise encounter.  Enter Corrado Maria de Santis, courtesy of our dear friends at Lost Tribe Sound: “Corrado Maria De Santis, an Italian guitarist, skillfully combines the raw spontaneity of improvised guitar with computer-generated sounds, crafting captivating sonic landscapes characterized by ambient drones and glitch-infused textures. Luther Thomas Human Arts Ensemble – Funky Donkey Vol. 1

Yet another vinyl masterpiece, reissued to perfection, comes to us from Wewantsounds.  This gem features a big player in the St. Louis jazz scene, Luther Thomas.  From the label’s press release: “A gang reunion, an effort of revitalization, a headbangers’ blowout, a legendary “lost” recording, a snapshot of its time, prophetic of sounds to come – Funky Donkey is all those things, but worth attention most ’cause after 50 years it’s still fun to hear. Alto saxophonist-ringleader Luther Thomas and his St. Louis cohort comprising the Human Arts Ensemble live large on this album, conveying as if right now the…

It was performed on cello and electronics and also sees Clarice expanding her ouevre into works for piano. The material comprises her first feature film comission, since which Clarice has worked on three more, and so marks…

Jeff Gburek – The Dunning-Kruger Effects

Today is an auspicious occasion as this post will mark 1,000 consecutive days of posting music for my readers and friends.  It’s most appropriate that number 1,000 would be someone who has appeared quite a few times on the blog, but Jeff Gburek offers an album that is as (primitive) bluesy as I’ve heard in some time.  The playing is mournful in parts, but it wraps your ears up and demands your attention.  Most importantly, I think this is the first time I’ve heard Jeff sing.  His voice sits perfectly in the point where blues, psych and acid folk all…
