The Uproot Group – Vampires

Every time I delve into the Mexican new music scene, I come up with something brilliant, but this time I was given a heads-up by The Uproot Group band member Enrico Gianfranchi to hear this album. What can I say? This made my day! The release blends jazz (naturally) with trip-hop, soundtrack, and library music, but with a far more bass-heavy vibe. From the band’s Bandcamp site:
“Vampires explores people’s deeper perceptions of themselves and the complexities of the experience of being human. Its heady contemporary jazz compositions, with hints of world music interspersed with samples that evoke obsolete notions of exoticism, laced with classical chamber influences, are the musical vehicle to an immediate exchange of perspectives, wisdom and knowledge. Meticulously recorded, mixed and mastered by Orson Ramírez (winner, Latin Grammy 2010), Vampires’ elegant and primal character uncovers the beauty in the infinite diversity of human thought and culture.”
