The ever-great Canary Records released this compilation in November 2024, and I finally had a chance to listen to it. From the label’s Bandcamp site:
“Originally released in 1973 in Czechoslovakia as “Romane Gil’a: Anthology of Gypsy Songs” with a cover that looked like an Emerson, Lake, and Palmer album or some other hip, youth-oriented thing of the time, this wonderful collection of ethnographic field recordings described the region where the recordings were made as “East and South Slovakia and North Moravia” and called itself “the first record containing an anthology of authentic Gypsy song folklore in Czechoslovakia — original recordings from the genuine environment of this specific ethnical group which on the average still differs from the rest of the population”.”
