Eastern Orthodox priests and monastics can be pretty cool at times. There are quite a few instances of monks who are or were musicians, balancing that world with the Christian one. My first monastery visit in (North) Macedonia many years ago included a stay at St. Dmitrij Markov Monastery, where the monks were young guys who had once been post-punk musicians. Imagine talking about Joy Division, having tea and baklava, and then attending services, all in one afternoon.
This leads to the current release. According to the Bandcamp site, “Fr. Dionysios Tabakis is a priest of the Orthodox Church. He serves at the Church of Panagitsa in Nafplio, the Nativity of the Theotokos, and records alone, at home.” The music is rather doomy metal, lo-fi, raw, and very enjoyable.
