“This album is the first encounter between improvisers John Garner and Hervé Perez. We came across each other’s work through the jazz and improvisation scene in the UK. With a shared interest in the spiritual, Buddhist meditation, and the shakuhachi we decided to record a duo session.So on this occasion, we both play a range of bamboo flutes and explore the deep and rich tones of the instruments.
The shakuhachi has a powerful tradition of written pieces and also a meditative approach. So we meet as improvisers and as Buddhist meditation practitioners.
Without intent or preconceived idea, we embrace the moment, we flow into the tones of the bamboo.
There is something pure about this moment, about the interaction of tone and timbre between the jinashi flutes.
