Once upon a time, there was an astounding good band based in Los Angeles called Pressurehed. They were utterly phenomenal to watch live, and were kings of the “20-minute psychedelic jam,” so to speak. Members would form the equally brilliant Farflung, whom I had the privilege of working with briefly in releasing an album (that was a lifetime ago). Band leader Tommy Greñas no longer lives in Los Angeles, but has headed across the country, being based in New York now. He brings us Ancient My Enemy, which has the driving power of the German motorik sound melded together with Krautrock, girded with a tribal beat. This is a pretty astounding debut.
