This release comes from May, 2026, and I’m glad I took the time to hear it. Andrea Grumelli is the bassist for the band Aether, and he is joined by Andrea Ferrari on guitars & keyboards, Andrea Serino on Fender Rhodes & keyboards, and Matteo Ravelli on drums. From the band’s Bandcamp site:
“Aether is a project that combines Progressive Rock and Jazz; created in late 2021 by four musicians from diverse backgrounds, it aims to move beyond the boundaries of mainstream Jazz, blending the various modern Post-Rock and Progressive influences of its members. The foundation of Aether’s sound is a combination of Jazz-inspired harmonies and the atmospheres of the Northern European school (ECM), alongside tonal and rhythmic elements typical of Progressive and Post-Rock,and the synthesized and electronic musings of Ambient music.”
The album was a quiet, pleasant, mellow surprise. Well done.
