Around 25 years ago, I had the privilege of tour-managing the English band Sol Invictus through a tour of the West Coast. It was a fun experience, and I’ve managed to keep some form of contact with a couple of the lads over the years. There was one instance where we watched an opening band in Portland, Oregon, called Sumerland, which impressed me. It seems the leader of the band, Enrique Ugarte, has blossomed as an artist, now working under the moniker SoRIAH, mixing profoundly dark atmospheric music with khöömei, the traditional throat-singing art from Mongolia and the Tuvan Republic among other locales. This is one 11-minute track, and it flows elegantly.
