From the Slawic Group’s Bandcamp site:
“The debut jazz recording by the duo of Slava Lobanov (of Fuzziliers, Juice Oh Yeah, Pereuchyot, the Flash Fever) and young pianist Peter Shalamov, who met in Istanbul where they relocated to after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, is inspired predominantly by iconic recordings of Bill Evans and Jim Hall duo and embodies the spirit of hüzün. The latter, roughly translated as melancholy, is the cornerstone of Istanbul’s atmosphere as claimed by Orhan Pamuk. Containing five originals written especially for this session the album lasts half an hour and shows a broad palette of jazz influences: from contemporary sounding Garden of Flowing Streams and Migration to standard-like It Doesn’t Rain Here and Re-Bop (The Point of Return) and inspired by Thelonious Monk ballad When I’m Blue.”
This is as mellow a release as I’ve heard in ages. It’s lush, pleasantly performed, and has a sunny disposition, something that you might not see in most of the music I post.
