Sometimes, a powerful dose of sound can be invigorating for the ears. Love Unfold The Sun is a band from New Mexico, led by my old friend Mustafa Stefan Dill. His guitar playing reminds me of John McLaughlin playing the oud, infused with the raw energy of Peter Brötzmann at his peak in free jazz. This quartet is as aggressive as any good metal band can aspire to be, but their unique strength lies in the fusion of the oud, cornet, and drums, drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern musical modes. It’s a sound unlike anything I’ve encountered in a long time. Consider bands like Trio of Doom and Krakatau as reference points.
