From the band’s website:
“JISR (جسر) is a Munich-based collective led by the charismatic linguist, singer, percussionist and gembri player Mohcine Ramdan. He has gathered some of Bavaria’s best musicians to share his vision of an emotional pan-oriental sound deeply rooted in the tradition of his musical family. Their live performance offers a unique fusion of Arabic maqam, the polyrhythms of Gnawa music, world spiritual jazz and a touch of Afro-Kraut, setting a new milestone in how to unite the diversity of diasporic music in Europe in one stage program. Truly fascinating and a must-see. JISR جسر bandleader Mohcine Ramdan follows the path of musical exchange like a postmodern Ibn Battuta of sound.”
At the moment, only one track is available to hear, but it’s quite a stunning ride. If you remember bands like Embryo (whose oudist and guitarist, the recently-departed Roman Bunka, played for Jisr) and the Third Ear Band and like bands who combine psychedelic rock, Kraut and world music together in a seamless way, you’re going to adore this band.
