How the Chinese-Jamaican Community Influenced the Development of Classic Reggae

One of the hazards of teaching teenagers is that you have to deal with bored, unchallenged, spoiled children whose interests are base and crude at best.  However, a few students are willing to stray out of their comfort zone and go exploring.  The topic of reggae came up with one of my English students, and I asked him if he knew how great the Chinese-Jamaican contribution was to the genre.  He knew nothing about it, but was intrigued.

Bandcamp’s Jared Proudfoot shares an article on all the magnificent people whose contribution to reggae, ska, rocksteady, mento, dub and all other related genres continues to this day, especially with Miss Pat (Patricia Chin) of VP Records, who is 81 years old now and still running one of the most crucial record labels in the reggae scene.  To read the Bandcamp article, click here.
