Borghesia is a prominent Slovenian electronic rock band that was established in Ljubljana (then part of Yugoslavia) in 1982. Formed by members of the alternative theater group Theatre FV-112/15 and Teater Performans, Borghesia carved out a distinctive aesthetic that boldly embraced imagery that was deemed forbidden, taboo, and repressed.
At their peak, they stood shoulder to shoulder with influential bands like Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF), Manufacture, and Front 242, solidifying their status as favorites among fans of the Electronic Body Music genre that flourished from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. What sets Borghesia apart is their ability to thrive within the strict limitations of Socialist Yugoslavia, a feat that many of their contemporaries, such as Laibach and Mizar, struggled to achieve due to political harassment.
This album represents a reissue of the band’s second album, originally released on cassette in 1982. While it may seem dated by today’s standards, it was exceptionally innovative for its time and evokes powerful memories for me.
