The Spanish ambient music label Faint brings together some of the best modern electronic music composers like David Cordero, Pepo Galán and Robert Farrugia.

From Bahía Mansa’s Bandcamp site: “Bahía Mansa is the sound project of musician Iván Aguayo. He has released a series of albums emphasizing the textural exploration of ambient minimalism from an ecological perspective, using electronic instruments and field recordings. At the beginning of 2022, Colony Collapse contacted Bahía Mansa and, given their mutual interest in each other’s art, the idea of collaborating from their respective disciplines was born. Thus, “costa documental”, a collaborative piece of music-sculpture created by the musician Iván Aguayo and the sculptor Justin Pape, was born from their interest in exploring ecology in a sustainable way. “This…

Today is an auspicious day, as I’m proud to say that this is the 700th consecutive post this blog has produced since January 1, 2021. The release is one I held onto for such an occasion, as Jeff Gburek, heavily featured on my site for the astounding quality of his work, pairs with Pete Swinton, a multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Java, Indonesia. The music has a hazy, lo-fi psychedelic rock quality to it, and the pieces on this album feel alive. You get the sense that you’re not only listening to the album, but it’s crawling inside of you. …

Eromoscape is an ambient artist from Syria, but not the kind who implements pulses (as opposed to beats, which is, as I understand it, against the original principle of ambient music) which are dark, somewhat foreboding, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Fresh recordings have been delivered by Jeff Gburek, and there are a few more in the pipeline, apparently, so 2022 will be a busy year for one of the blog’s favorites. From Jeff’s Bandcamp site: “Five Broke Downe Homesick for the Open Road Medley Blues came to me as the title for tracks I recorded in October bounced off of various field recordings from the Summer 2022 . They are all recorded spontaneously at various locations. One can hear domestic and wilderness noises in the backgrounds (1), campfires, foxes or wolves, crickets (3). The tracks are mostly raw juxtapositions of…

What a joy it is when a friend releases a new album! Argentine composer (now residing in England) Santiago Fradejas offers an experimental music album composed on an 8-string electric guitar and loops, making a soundscape album that is, at times, Fripperesque. It’s dark, but not foreboding, and gently flows in and out of consciousness. A headphone album for sure.

Our dear friends at Eighth Tower Records never cease to surprise us with their choices for topics. This compilation, featuring the legendary Rapoon along with a slew of new artists, is dedicated to the novel that launched the career of Bram Stoker and make vampires alluring among the public well before movies exploded their importance in the public consciousness. From the release’s website: To celebrate this modern myth Eighth Tower has called musicians from various countries and asked them their musical interpretation of the Dracula myth. Either gloomy soundscapes or electroacoustic compositions, all the pieces are inspired by chapters, scenes,…

Despite the horribly long song and album titles, Wings Of An Angel is an ambient music machine, pumping out quality ambient music almost daily. This is the album that caught my attention recently, and the tracks are long, droning tracks that float on clouds. Despite the frequency of output, WOAA maintain great quality in their music.

Siavash Amini, an Iranian sound artist and composer, collaborates on this album with author and poet Eugene Thacker on Songs for Sad Poets, though I hear no vocals on this disc. What is on offer, however, are incredibly bleak soundscapes that range from engaging dark ambient music which settles well in headphones to abrasive post-Industrial music which tears at the eardrums in a most pleasant way. From the pair’s Bandcamp site for this release: The collection of eight pieces draws its inspiration from the legacy of the so-called cursed poets (»poètes maudits«) as well as the German-language tradition of song…

Esa Ruoho is a project out of Finland who works with really long, sinewy drones and atmospherics to get lost in on a headphone trip. Fine ambient music, something rare in a time when the term is so badly abused.
