    Senyawa – Istana (Live)

Today is a workday for us in Beijing, so there is no review today, but I did want to point you to an Indonesian band called Senyawa, who is featured on Rafaelle Pezzella’s incredible Unexplained Sounds Group‘s digipak retrospective called the Far East Music Collection.  It is a reissue of three seminal compilations covering experimental music from China, Indonesia and the Far East in general.  The set looks gorgeous, and Senyawa‘s contribution is mind-blowing.

    Batavia Collective – Propulsion

I haven’t had a chance to review anything from Indonesia in some time, so it gives me pleasure to introduce you to a band called the Batavia Collective.  Their sound is a great balance of jazz, fusion and electronica.  One track only, but it’s a solid one.

    Yanti Bersaudara – Anggrek Merah

On this Holy Saturday for our Western Christian friends, I’d like to present to you a group out of the island of Java in Indonesia called Yanti Bersaudara (The Yanti Sisters), who were a well-known pop group during the 1960s.  Sounds Of Asia are releasing a lot of lost albums of high quality, and this is among their latest.
