Sacher Pelz is one of the early monickers of Maurizio Bianchi (MB, who is legendary to fans of experimental noise), and he returns in collaboration with consistently amazing Malaysian composer Fallen Sun and the American artist Thomas Bey William Bailey. As with a great deal of MB releases, this one Continue Reading

ARROWOUNDS – The Loneliness of the Hollow Earth Explorer Vol. 1
Thanks to our old friends at Lost Tribe Sound, who bring us the latest ARROWOUNDS album. The description at their Bandcamp site is absolutely grand: “A love letter to the Ohio River Valley, the Earthworks, and the esoteric mysteries of the cave systems in the Southern OH/KY regions. With weavings Continue Reading
Anthony Braxton – Quartet (Bristol) 1985
One of America’s foremost saxophonists, Anthony Braxton, collaborates with Marilyn Crispell on piano, Mark Dresser on double bass, and Gerry Hemingway on percussion. This music is as free as it gets, but has a slight film-noir soundtrack feel in parts. Impressive.
Helena Espvall / Ernesto Diaz-Infante / Marjorie Sturm – A Shadowed Fulguration
Thanks ever so much to Ernesto Diaz-Infante for alerting me to his latest release with percussionist and Nepalese flute player Marjorie Sturm (his spouse, if I am not mistaken) and cellist Helena Espvall. Musically, there is a gritty, lo-fi feel to the recordings, with the guitar sounding more like a Continue Reading

We have sad news to report. Yesterday, David Thomas, singer of the legendary art-punk band Pere Ubu, passed away. We honor his memory by sharing a rather brilliant live album with his side project, David Thomas and Two Pale Boys. From Pere Ubu’s Bandcamp site: “David Thomas, Andy Diagram, and Continue Reading
Mental Health Food Store (Jeff Gburek) – Totemic Encounters, 2025

From the Mental Health Food Store Bandcamp site: “In early February, while developing and learning to operate this mysterious new modular synthesizer “ecosystem” — these tracks engendered themselves. They are mainly improvised, and since modular synths Continue Reading

Steve Layton – Introspection
Our dear friend Steve Layton’s latest work is a collection of minimalist music, including the first work, Gospodi pomiluj (Lord have mercy) which has a, dare I say it, holy feel to it. I owe Steve a great debt for introducing me to many modern classical musicians through his website, Continue Reading
Yelka – In A Rose Hat
From the band’s Bandcamp site: “A strikingly different take on contemporary America—YELKA’s In A Rose Hat offers an artistic perspective far removed from stadium rock or trap trends. It’s an intimate, almost cinematic interpretation that upends expectations. “Crawl into your hibernation, don’t wait for a new sensation…” the opening, ´Colors Continue Reading
