Sacher Pelz is one of the early monickers of Maurizio Bianchi (MB, who is legendary to fans of experimental noise), and he returns in collaboration with consistently amazing Malaysian composer Fallen Sun and the American artist Thomas Bey William Bailey. As with a great deal of MB releases, this one Continue Reading

Jean-Michel Jarre – Deserted Palace
Much respect to Transversales Disques who have lovingly reissued (on vinyl and digital, no less!) the first album of Jean-Michel Jarre before he became a commercial success in France and then worldwide. From the label’s Bandcamp site: “Transversales Disques proudly presents the first official LP reissue of Deserted Palace, a Continue Reading
Flo Rosset – Intra
An intriguing release by French musician Flo Rosset, who combines electronica, hip-hop and percussive beat into the sort of techno I wish more artists in the genre aspired to. An intelligent release, musically.
Rettward von Doernberg – Follow the Money
Berlin-based composer Rettward von Doernberg returns with a new album, sadly only offering one track to listen to on Bandcamp, but if it is any indication of how the rest of the music will sound, it will be the sort of music you can enjoy while playing video games (something Continue Reading
Tomosla – Dunestal
Perhaps it is because of a slightly somber mood, but I have been feeling the ghost of Florian Fricke in several of the releases I’ve had a chance to go through this week. Tomosla is a duo who work out of Devon, England, and have somehow managed to meld ambient Continue Reading
Etran de L’Aïr – Agadez (Single)
From the band’s Bandcamp site: “Etran de L’Aïr, the hometown heroes of Tuareg guitar from Agadez, return with a new single that celebrates their roots. Infused with surf-tinged guitar riffs and the driving rhythms, “Agadez” is a sunny party anthem paying tribute to the historic desert capital. A beloved classic Continue Reading
ARROWOUNDS – The Loneliness of the Hollow Earth Explorer Vol. 1
Thanks to our old friends at Lost Tribe Sound, who bring us the latest ARROWOUNDS album. The description at their Bandcamp site is absolutely grand: “A love letter to the Ohio River Valley, the Earthworks, and the esoteric mysteries of the cave systems in the Southern OH/KY regions. With weavings Continue Reading
Anthony Braxton – Quartet (Bristol) 1985
One of America’s foremost saxophonists, Anthony Braxton, collaborates with Marilyn Crispell on piano, Mark Dresser on double bass, and Gerry Hemingway on percussion. This music is as free as it gets, but has a slight film-noir soundtrack feel in parts. Impressive.
Departure Street – Phantom Sightings
Thanks to Allan Kimmel for sending me this incredibly mellow record. Departure Street offers a sound that blends elements of shoegaze with a lo-fi take on post-rock and even shows hints of the legendary German Krautrock band Popol Vuh. It makes for a perfect morning album.
